Proudness

I meant to write this a couple of days back, but speaking to my Mum has just prompted me.

I'm rooly trooly proud of my Elinor today!

My wonderful lady managed to land a tip top job to be proud of : Deaf-Blind Co-ordinator role for the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind (RNZFB).

I'm still trying to work out the scope, but essentially El will be co-ordinating services for Deaf-Blind people in the lower half of the North Island. There'll be some travel, some overnight stays, and lots of use of sign language and most probably the need to learn braille too.

I hope the job's flexibility and nature will still allow El to continue to do some NZSL interpreting as coming out of hospitality and upping her 'terping work again has seen her shoulders thrown back and a little more confidence come back into her. It's wonderful to see. She should be confident - she's a wonderful human being, and a talented individual.

Congratulations Elinor.

On another proud note, my Mum was thanked by many of her peers, ex-students, and other academics last week, for all her work in the last 10 years or so - changing the face of French Literature studies across the world.

I can't profess to be a student of my mum's work, but I do know that she has touched many people with her tutoring, teaching, mentoring, organising, coordinating, support, writing, research, and generally human interaction. I know that thank you meant a lot to her, and whilst she will be taking a step away from the University she has been working at for some time now, she will continue to work on a variety of subjects which continue to interest her. A massive congratulations to my hard-working mum for all her work in this field and with a wide variety of people.
